Well it’s that time of year again when our hearts and thoughts are tossed to and fro with a whirlwind of things to do, places to go and people to see. A new year is upon us and we reflect back on the year that was with hopes of a better year in the one to come!
In that reflection, I had a brain-blast (thanks Jimmy Neutron) the other day while in the shower and quickly jotted a note to myself so that I would remember to post here in my blog about said brain-blast… It wasn’t a long thought, I didn’t spend much time at all on it and honestly it was just a flash, but the picture it painted in my mind and the things I saw in my head screamed to me that I needed to share it with all of you.
Christmas time is a big deal all around most of the world and with many it is also a time of celebration in the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The Christmas story as told in the Bible is a great one and I love reading about it each year and at other times during the year as well. I try to draw something new each year from it… something I didn’t particularly pick up on or have strike me as paramount the last time I read through the story. This year it was a gift to have a renewed interest and point of view on Luke 2:8-20. Read it (it will speak to you) as that is not the main purpose of this blog entry.
God’s gift to mankind was Jesus. He came that we could have life and it more abundantly, John 10:10 … In my “brain-blast” I was reminded of the many gifts I have received over the years that have come in many different forms. The best ones (trying not to put or determine a specific order) are my children, Joshua, Tabitha and Elijah, my wife Sue, my grandchildren Presley (and little brother to arrive in March) and my lil’ man Brentlee, my daughter-in-law to be Manda, son-in-law Tommy, all of their family, our extended family, my sister-in-law and family, our house, our wonderful neighbors, my parents, Sue’s parents, her sister Janette and husband Carl, our nieces, our friends …. I could go on.
When I thought of those things and people we have in our lives in literally a split second I was reminded of how truly blessed of a man I am. I have a roof over my head, food on the table, clean clothes, stuff and I am above ground still after all I have put myself and my body through over all these years and yet here I am… quite content, loved and able to write out my thoughts to you today.
As you think about this past year and the events of the last 12 months, just remember how fortunate you are for we have all been given and have been entrusted with so much. And, if you’re anything like me, you’ll also be thinking “I can’t wait for this Christmas and to see my family’s reaction as they open their gifts and while (like the kid I am) you anticipate the ones you will receive…” All that is good and fine you see, just never forget how blessed you are and to be oh so thankful for and the gifts you already have!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year… I’m out…
